    Michigan Association of Police Organizations

    Purpose

    The Michigan Association of Police Organizations is a coalition of groups formed for the purpose of assisting in promoting and introducing legislation that could impact upon the Michigan public safety community and or the criminal justice system. The Association is not affiliated with any political party, and is organized on a voluntary, non-partisan basis to further the legislative interests of police officers, public safety officers and other as determined by the Board of Directors.

    Membership

    The Michigan Association of Police Organizations is the largest independent organization representing Michigan’s Finest.  Currently within the coalition there are some 9,000 plus full-time members represented by:

    • Police Officers Labor Council
    • Detroit Police Officers Association
    • Michigan State Police Troopers Association
    • Michigan Association of Police
    • Detroit Police Lieutenants & Sergeants Association
    • Grand Rapids Police Officers Association
    • Michigan State Police Command Officers Association
    • Warren Police Officers Association
    • Warren Police Command Officers Association
    • Detroit Police Command Officers Association
    • Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers Association
    • Kalamazoo Police Supervisors Association

    Legislative Consultants

    The Michigan Association of Police Organizations employs the services of the states number one legislative consultant, Karoub Associates.

    Accomplishments

    • PA 195 Police Survivor Benefits Act

    • Act 312 Binding Arbitration – Successful in retaining the act
    • CCW Legislation – No mandatory permits
    • Defined Contribution Pension Programs – Lobbied against inclusion of public safety officers into any such mandatory plans
    • PA 212 Residency Requirements – Successful in eliminating residency requirements for public employees to retain one’s employment or denial of a promotion due to some previous local residency restrictions

    Additional Benefits

    • Member Groups have access to the health care plan sponsored by the Association – “The Coalition of Public Employees Health Care Trust” fully insured by US Life Insurance Company
